Today DoshDosh wrote about how to promote your website , it was very interesting article where I wanted my self add something to that.
I think to promote your website or blog is one of the important things that you want to do and focus on if you would like to be successful with your www caree.
There is many ways to do it, some people tend to be lucky and pay little as no advertising and get successfully and some people or companies pay huge amounts of money to promote their business and have same outcome as the ones that do not.
In my opinion if your website is still new I would start with communitys to promote your website, I am not saying to spam everybody, but to mention your website that does exist. Best way to find communities is forums look for forums, go to mybloglog and blogcatalog get your name out there. Also create your own myspace add as many friends you can, post some bulletins and articles.
Next thing you want to do is visit as many blogs you can and your time allows, post comments ! include your website ! I have couple of blog friends that visit my website every day and they post and they stumble my site. I do same for them, and that is the way you want to build your community. Just couple of those friends bring me over 1000+ unique visitors a week and that is for free!
Don’t forget to use stumbleupon button by cymru66 this will bring you a lot of traffic.

I just wanted to comment about leaving comments on blogs. If you have a blog then I believe that is fine but there is such a thing called BLOGSPAM and G, Y and MSN all have a algorithm to detect this.
I really do not know what effect this has on sites but just the fact it has been mentioned might simply be scare mongering or where there is smoke there is fire. I would like to learn or know more about this and if in fact it is true or not.
I do believe though if you hit the top commentator widget then links to your site will escalate dramatically over a short period of time. I went from 600 to 36k in five days, hence my listing position declined commensurately.
