More Traffic = More Money

The equation above, is the awful truth about “Make Money Online”. If you do not have much traffic to your site, you will probably never make money with it. If you want money, you need traffic.

With this post, I intend to write about some techniques that could make a huge difference about the position of your page or site at the search engines ranks and by consequence, help to get more traffic.

First of all what means “OnPage SEO” or “OnSite SEO”? SEO is how were well-known several techniques to optimize the capacity of finding pages or sites in the internet immensity. Nowadays without the searches sites, as Google and Yahoo, would be practically impossible to find important information on the Web, it is thanks to these mechanisms that probably you arrived to that post. Back to the main subject, SEO means “Search Engine Optimization”. These techniques are divided into OffPage SEO and OnPage SEO, in the case of OffPage SEO they are techniques with no relation of a page or site, but OnPage SEO, they are techniques that are linked entirely to a page or site. Here in this post I am going to write about OnPage SEO and OffPage SEO.

ONPAGE SEO

1 – Choosing the most adequate Keywords.
The keywords choice is a fundamental activity to choose since the most adequate name for your site, as well as the title of your posts and the words that will use in the content. For such, should initiate a search by the keywords used most in the search sites with relevance to the subject of our site. As an example, we will imagine a site that is about “Make Money”. There are online tools to help us to get some suggestions, I use Overture or also you can do the download of a free program, called GoodKeyWords. Then we are going to do the search using the Overture considering the term “Make Money”:

These would be the suggestions for “Make Money”, the number on the left, shows how many times this word was searched that month, followed by the sentence or keyword. So we just have to use the keyword “Make Money”? It is not so simple, we will do a search at Google with this keyword. My search returned for me 589 million of pages, in other words, if you use this keyword looks how many competitors you will have. The idea is to use the tool of the Overture, and find keywords that do not have so much competition, in the case, the keyword “Make Money” was searched in January month 105,016 times, the idea is to choose words in the band of the 6,000 until 3,000, and that will bring a good traffic to your page, without so many competitors. In the case, we will test the words between “make money ways” until “easy make money online”, you will see that doing the same search in Google with these words, the number of pages will fall a lot and consequently you will have less competitors. So, your site could have the URL “make-money-ways.com” or “easy-make-money-online.com”, or this would be only the title of your site. Is very important do not fail to do this search, because the chosen keywords should be the most used at your site. Having chosen yours keywords, you should do the best to use them in the URL and at the titles of your site or pages. In the case of a blog, much attention to the titles of your posts, the ideal is that they always contain one of the chosen keywords.

2 – Take care of your Meta Tags
The meta tags are fundamental to guarantee your page of being indexed adequately by the search sites and consequently appears well classified in that searches. Just not enough to place the Tags “KeyWords” e “Descriptions”, these should be performed adequately, and include others that are very important. To assist, you can use a Online meta tag generator tool, this tool is a practice way of generate all the important tags that our site needs. Other important point is the links quantity for other sites, according to the tool 100 links would be the maximum, but I find very complicated to manage to reduce that number with your site is a blog.
3 – Build a sitemap
To Build a map of your site, contend the links for all the pages facilitates so much the job of the search sites. But how to build a sitemap for your site? First, I am going to talk how to build the sitemap and after the alternatives to who owns a blog in the Blogger platform. The sitemap, is nothing more than a formated XML file, and can be generated through several online tools. I particularly use the site XML Site Maps, that besides generating in xml, it also generates in other formats. OK, did you generate your site map and what to do with it? Let´s go step by step:

4 – Validate Technical Mistakes
So for your page be easily indexed by the search sites, also is important to verify technical mistakes in the HTML code, of course not everything is a mistake, but you can clean your code and make it better indexed. You can use this online tool to verify the HTML code of your page. You are going to realize that besides the tool to check your HTML or XHTML, also there are tools to check your links, feeds and etc.

5 – Update your page or site constantly
The search sites visit often pages or sites where the content also is often up-to-date, in other words, do the best to update periodically your site. You will receive more visits from the search bots and consequently will go up in the ranks.

OFFPAGE SEO

The OFFPAGE SEO is the technique that has more influence in the position of a page in the ranks accomplished by the search sites, if you wishes to go up quickly the rank of your page, focuses on the theme OffPage SEO. To have an idea what I am talking about, the appropriated using of this technique, can make your page go up of the position 900 to the position 1 in the Google. OffPage SEO is related to factors out of your page, that the search sites use to classify your page or site. These factors are:

1 – Which pages link to you
2 – The number of pages linking to you
3 – The Google Page Rank of the website linking to you
4 – The page title of the website linking to you
5 – The anchor text used in the link linking to you
6 – The number and type of links linking the website that´s linking to you
7 – The total number of links on the website that´s linking to you

There are some another, like IP address and etc, but these are the most important ones.

We will consider that we want to use the OffPage SEO technique, regarding the keyword “make money online”, in other words, we want when someone searches for “make money online” our site appears among the top first site of the results. To do that, we will do a “benchmark” by the 10 first sites in Google’s Search for this keyword.

The idea is to copy literally what these sites are doing, and to improve subtly, in order to obtain best results. But what should we copy? Simple, the 7 factors that I mentioned above.

Then let’s go, in the search that we did with the keyword “make money online” the best classified site is the Bidvertiser site, that is a PPC ad network like Google Adsense. In this case, we do not go to use it because do not would be a good example, because treating itself an PPC ad service, imagine the quantity of pages on the web that linking to them with the keyword “make money online”. Let´s go to the second position on the list, that is a blog with tips to make money, called moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com, entering at the page note that it has a Page Rank of
4, in other words, how I said at my post about Page Rank, is is not always related to a better position in Google’s Search. Then we go to our first factor:

1 – Which pages are linking to this?
Again, we will use Google as tool, type in the search box “link:http://moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com” and we have as results all the pages linking to the site moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com

Now that we have the pages list linking to our “Benchmark’s Site”, we are going to analyze each sites with much detail.

2 – The number of pages linking to this site?
About 197 pages

3 – Google Page Rank of these sites?
The http://patchlog.com/general/stop-spam-in-phpbb-with-akismet/ do not have a Page Rank, but the site home page http://patchlog.com has a Page Rank of 4/10.

4 – The title of the websites linking to this site?
You can realize that the page http://patchlog.com does not have our keyword,the ideal is to obtain sites in which the title contains the main keyword of our site, or as we want to be found on the WEB. Then we go to the next page http://profit-line.blogspot.com/search/label/keywords, notice that this page in spite of having a low Page rank, it has in your title the words “money” e “online”.

5 – The anchor text used in the link linking to the site?
By curiosity let´s go to see where is this link, will be that it uses our keyword, I found the link in a kind of Blog Roll, notice that it is used the Anchor Text “Money Maker Online”. In the case, both pages would not be the best candidates for a link partner, because the ideal is a Page Rank above 4 and that also contains the keyword in the title. If we continue in our list will also see that our third site has a Page rank
of 4/10 and it has our keyword in the title, then the site http://myagloconetwork.blogspot.com/ would be a great site to be our first link partner.

6 – The number and type of links linking the website that´s linking to the site?
Now that we find our first link partner, we will see the links that point to it. Reminding that we are going to see the links that point to the site and also number of links at the page http://myagloconetwork.blogspot.com/2007/05/here-are-some-money-making-ideas-for.html that´s linking to http://moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com. We simply procede in the same way that we discover links partners for the site http://moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com, so we get:
- Links http://myagloconetwork.blogspot.com/ 205 links (The Inbounds Links)
- Links http://myagloconetwork.blogspot.com/2007/05/here-are-some-money-making-ideas-for.html 204 links (use the online meta analyser tool to get this number)

7 – The total number of links on the website that´s linking to this site?
So we have 205 links (inBounds), plus 204 links (Outbound), totalizing 409 links

Summarizing:

• According to Google exist 197 pages linking the site http://moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com
• The Google Page Rank of at least 2 of these sites is 4
• The Anchor Text to the site http://moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com is Money Maker Online
• The title of some of the pages contains “Money Online”
• The total number of links of the site http://myagloconetwork.blogspot.com/ is 409

You can open a excel worksheet to registering all of these numbers, because the idea is that as soon as you finished with the partner http://myagloconetwork.blogspot.com/, you pass to the next and for the next. After have all the link partners properly registered, you will have copied all links strategy of the site http://moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com, and you will be able to do the same for your site, but how ? Sending e-mails for these sites and asking to put a link for your site, with your main keyword as anchor text. Off course before doing that, you should reserve a location in your site and place first all your partners’ links, in other words, before ask to put a link for you, put the link of them.
