When I started blogging this was one of the search keywords I typed on google “Free Wordpress Themes” and found some really good blogs and websites that offer a lot of themes.

Once I found wordpress themes I couldn’t decide which one to download. Should it be white, black, green, read etc…?

I had my new wordpress theme installed and then the problems begin, they are either outdated, the images don’t display correctly or they do not support newer version of wordpress.

First to make easier on you here are some tips I could share from my own experience if you know all of this just skip to the bottom of the post to find links where you can get free wordpress themes.

How much is your blog important?

As much your blog is important to you the more you should look to make your blog pretty. If your car dealer would look unprofessional or had Hawaiian shirt on with flip flops would you but car from him rather then from the guy with tie, shirt pants and he is freshly shaved?

First impression is always important whether you are on first date, buying or selling car, or you are at the business meeting.

What theme (template) you should go for?

I assume that many of wordpress and other blog services users don’t know how to create theme for them self. There are two options:

1. Get wordpress webdesigner - tell him what you want to see

2. Download theme that suits your blog and blog topic

What Should You Look For In Theme Before You Download And Install.

First check if that theme has some preview or demo, this way you don’t have to install it and then find out that its crapy looking or it’s not complaint with your blog software version.

How old is the template? The older the theme it is the worst things could happen to you. What I mean by that is, if theme is 2 year old, and for example you are running wordpress 2.3, I bet you many things might not work for you.

Color is important as well, look for themes that do not have more then 4-5 different colors, 2-3 is still ok but more then that you blog would look like a circus. Also bright colors like fluorescent or bright green colors could harm your blog traffic as well. Your visitors will think “Either I am high or this Webdesigner was high when developing this theme”.

Troubleshooting, this is the most important thing when you download themes, always send email to original designer asking him “How long does he/she think supporting his theme? Does troubleshooting cost anything?” and such.

I could go on and on about these tips so if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask on comments or even contact me.

Unfortunately most of the free themes out there are ugly, but after some extreme research it’s very satisfying to find one that fits.
