Can changing your wordpress theme ruin or better your google keyword density?

Looking at few blogs, I have noticed once they changed their wordpress theme:

A: Got better ranking on certain keywords

B: Google shoot them from place no.1 to place no.27

What does this tell us?

When changing your wordpress theme, make sure it is SEO Friendly, also before you change it, what spot you are on google for certain keywords, before you change it. After the change allow google to scan your blog and see what will happen.

Is there a way to fix once you lost your google spot ?

Yes, go back to your old theme, and work on the new one offline, check the differences between old and new theme. Images do not play any role in this situation.

FYI: I am writing this from experience. I owned blog that use to be no.1 for certain keywords, few days later I changed my theme to be more navigational and also look more adoptive to the topic.

Just 27 hours later when google scanned my blog, my blog went from No.1 to No.9, 75 hours later from no.9 to no.45!

So if you ever wonder why you lost your google spot for keyword “make money online” one thing to look at is “WordPress Theme”

Although I’m aware that some WordPress themes are SEO optimized (my own is one), I hadn’t realized it could impact that dramatically. SEO is something that I’m keen to get my head around, but although I grasp the basics of keyword use, there seem to be more and more elements to be considered. Sometimes my head feels like it’s gonna explode;-D

Thats a big impact – 4 days and a drop of 45 places in Google.

I just need my blog to actually start ranking but will bear this in mind before changing any designs.

Totally true!

You can also see it that if you start a new blog, and choose a bad theme to start with Google simply takes ages (OD a month really) to display it for anything else but the full domain name as a search phrase. While with a clean theme, you get your post withing minutes in the SERP (with PING and Google XML Sitemap).

Just one question…
Do you know if it’s enough for the optimization of a blog to use a plugin like All in One SEO Pack or HeadSpace, or do I need to change my theme code until it’s SEO friendly?

Thank you,
Pol
