I wrote how blog themes can ruin your page rank in google search. But in this edition I would like you to know that also few extra plugins can ruin your seo too.
Almost each blog plugin has to insert code into your blog theme, so even if your theme is super search engine optimized your theme get’s ruined by plugins.
Now I know that some of you can’t live without having those plugins, but reality is that if you want your blog no.1 featured on google search for keyword “professional blogger” it will take you tripple mount of time then for somebody that has less plugins.
What plugins to be aware of?
Be aware of blog plugins that are after <head> or <body> and before </head> or </body> , now if we are talking about plugins like “All In One Seo Pack” then you are ok, because that plugin actually helps you optimize your theme with blog title, description and keywords.
Also I would never go for more then 10-15 plugins, if you have more then that, consider another theme that has all of the features you want but don’t need plugin for it.
Like for example adding 125×125 banners , why would you need plugin for that? all you really need to do is add html code to the widget and you are all done.
What plugin is a must have?
All in One Seo Pack is must have plugin on any theme for any blog. It has been downloaded over 200.000 times!!! and works perfect.
So what to do next…
1. Go to your plugins page, look for plugins you really don’t need.
2. If there are new updates for those plugins UPDATE them asap.
3. Remove plugins that are not activated(deactivated)

Horaayy..there are 3 comment(s) for me so far ;)
This is very helpful, I am just starting a blog and was wondering what plug in people used and recommended. I will definately consider this post from now on when looking at plug ins.
I totally agree, All in One Seo Pack is must have plugin. I use it for all of my blogs
Another must have plugin is SEO WordPress from utheguru.com it eliminates dupe content by using meta robots tags to noindex but follow tag pages, category pages, etc. There is also the code you need for your robots.txt file. In a lot of themes the header file has this line:
remove it so it doesn’t conflict with SEO WordPress.
