For past few months now, I have been socializing a lot, you can see me active on sites like Twitter, Plurk, Stumbleupon and many others. Since I have been socializing with other top bloggers and people that follow me I have realized how helpful social network can be. On few occasions I asked others “What do you think about my blogging?” or “What do you think I should do?” Once I followed few advices my readership, comments and traffic over all trippled. Since I am blogging not only on Bontb.com but also on LiveCrunch.com others notice that my blogging got improved.
Social networks are great because you can talk to bloggers that might don’t get a chance to answer your question in blog comments, yet if you ask them same question via Twitter for example, you get that same question answered, and not only from one person but multiple. Bloggers like JohnChow , ZenHabits, ChisG, Darren Rowse, Maki from DoshDosh are all on twitter every single day. They understand that the more they socialize the more popularity they gain , the more popularity you get the more profitable your blog is.
So your homework for the rest of this year is to socialize with others on sites I mentioned above.
Don’t forget to add me:
Want some real statistics?
Lets take LiveCrunch technology blog for example. Blog is only 8 months old, in late february when I started socializing I have been receiving about 1500-2000 visitors per month, blog was only 2 months old at that time. I joined social networks , since then my blog for past 4 months is receiving over 160.000 page views not only because I socialized but because people I talked to helped me build better blog and told me few things I should fix. Unfortunaly because I did not start branding Bontb I don’t receive as much traffic like LiveCrunch.

Horaayy..there are 12 comment(s) for me so far ;)
I’ve only been using such sites regularly since ProBloggers love-in.
The thing I like most, that you’ve touched on, is the fact that you can enter a dialogue with some of the A-listers and pick up good tips when, on their blogs, your comments would probably go unnoticed.
@Scam: I mean I didn’t want in post to be like “Oh I socialize just to receive traffic” Hope my message wasn’t cross pointed in that way
Anyways glad u like it.
I got your meaning, perhaps my comment was poorly written
I’m of the opinion that if you only use social media for traffic then you probably won’t get much of any quality anyway, unless you are already writing content that deserves some popularity.
Rather, the relationships that it helps you build are where the value lies.
Social networking is a great place to find traffic, but like you said, you gotta remember the social part.
Without participating, it’s hard to get people’s attention.
When engaging in social networks, do you think it’s more effective to focus on groups that are closest to what you blog about, or would you recommend reaching out to as many people as possible?
Social media or social networking (one example of social media) have a number of characteristics that make them fundamentally different from traditional media such as newspapers, television, books, and radio. Primarily, social media depend on interactions between people as the discussion and integration of words build shared-meaning, using technology as a conduit.
interesting site it really learns me a lot…
Yes certainly social networking sites can really work well for you. I have seen results myself.
Just wanted to ask, which of the five sites you mentioned gives you the best results?
The Social Media sites are the best site to build up the links and also your personal reputation…
Thus, as a webmaster, you should learn how to master the SEO skills and get the most benefit of it!
The important thing to remember is that social media traffic does not make you money. People who arrive at your site via a referral are typically not thinking about buying anything. The only way this might change is if you, personally, are offering something of value such as an eBook you wrote, software you wrote or a highly recommended membership program.
I get the majority of my sign-ups from social sites like Yuwie… Not, so much from Direct Matches. It’s become to saturated! But, all and all social media traffic seems to be working fine for my conversions!
